UPI transactions using SBI accounts have been experiencing problems since August 3. Due to failed SBI UPI transactions, users have seen messages such as “Servers temporarily unavailable” or “Your bank’s servers did not respond.” on their screens. Server issues have prevented them from making payments, checking account balances, or even updating their profiles.
They have made payments, but the SBI UPI transaction does not appear at their end or at the receiving party’s end. Those trying to retrieve their balance are confronted with the message “your bank server failed to respond”. Users have been frustrated by the breakdown of servers in the first week of the month. Especially if they have a salary account with SBI.
Twitter has been used by agitated customers to voice their concerns and seek help from SBI and its digital partners. SBI has responded with “Dear Customer, we apologize for the inconvenience caused.”. Our UPI app is experiencing intermittent connectivity issues. Our team is working to resolve it as soon as possible. Please use our other digital channels.”
SBI UPI has not given a date for when the issue will be resolved. Although the SBI team attempted to resolve the issue on August 6, it remains unresolved. SBI account holders are more frustrated by frequent problems. SBI UPI servers have been plagued with similar issues in the past as well.
Initially, scanning the messages indicated that SBI UPI transactions could not be processed through Google Pay. Later, PayTM, PhonePe, Amazon UPI, and BHIM UPI also faced similar challenges.
SBI is aware of the issue and is working on resolving it. As a result, it has requested that users opt for other modes of digital transactions such as netbanking, credit cards, and debit cards.
During night hours, UPI servers have limited functionality. At night, many people find themselves unable to complete their transactions. During the night, how native bank’s CBS talks to NPCI Switch/Server is determined by the bank’s infrastructure.
NPCI usually keeps its UPI servers/switch on 24x7x365, whereas many banks keep their CBS databases offline at night, resulting in failed UPI transactions. If, for example, a transaction from HDFC bank needs to be made at night using the SBI UPI App. In that case, the three entities SBI UPI App, HDFC CBS, and NPCI must be in sync in order for a transaction to be successful.

Nevertheless, it appears since 1st December, the earlier issues while doing BHIM UPI, Google Pay, PayTM, or on the official SBI Yono app transactions have not been fixed. Users are experiencing issues related to the server’s performance, resulting in them being unable to complete transactions.
SBI’s online payments are not getting through, and even UPI payment transactions with credit cards and debit cards are failing. SBI has not responded to reports of failed transactions. SBI’s team is likely to work towards a permanent fix.
