With the internet, anyone can become a media sensation overnight, similar to Samsung Sam, a virtual assistant with a captivating physical representation. Its sheer popularity is its beautiful blue eyes, bob haircut, and stunning young body, which most people have termed waifu – a blandishment term used for an anime character to which someone is mostly romantically attracted.
The full name of Samsung Sam is Samantha. Her existence was not officially acknowledged initially when it became popular overnight after publishing its existence in July, even though a Brazilian Lightfarm company and Cheil mutually designed it – a marketing firm owned by Samsung
SAMSUNG SAM – A 3D RENDERED IMAGES
The Samsung Sam is a collection of 3D rendered images that is pro in using Samsung products and features. Initially, it was not manufactured as an alternative to promote Samsung products. On the contrary, the purpose of its design was to elaborate on what a human-form virtual assistant would look like.
The interesting fact is that it was initially designed in 2D by Lightfarm, but they did not showcase it then; however, after its redesign, the company posted its images on social media, where it attracted a lot of consumers due to its attractive looks and as you can expect it was not doe the purpose it was designed for. It continued to capture the hearts of people, especially generation Z and will continue to do so as nothing disappears from the internet.
In some parts of the world, fake humans are used instead of real ones for various reasons and are much more popular, for example, Alexa or Siri. With the same concept in mind, the company designed Samsung Sam to capture millions of people’s minds. Some people thought it was designed as a replacement for Bixby – a faceless Samsung virtual assistant; however, it would be early to say that, but in the future, nobody knows as that might happen
INNOVATIVE STEPS BY SAMSUNG
Since the beginning, Samsung has partnered with several firms to bring innovation into their products. As we know, Samsung initially did not recognize Samsung Sam as their product despite their partnership with Lightfarm; similarly, they had partnered, for the Galaxy promotion campaign, with Brud’s Lil Miquela, where they had placed Samsung Galaxy on the Miquela storyline for a month.
Samsung had also partnered with The Diigitals’ Shudu Gram as another innovative step towards taking their products to another level. With the help of this partnership, they tried to promote their products by associating them with virtual influencers.
Considering the partnerships mentioned earlier, it should not surprise someone when Samsung partnered with Lightfarm for the design of Samsung Sam; that is undoubtedly one of the best products Samsung could ever have, as innovation is in their DNA.
FAKE HUMANS IN SAMSUNG HISTORY AND THE FUTURE OF SAMSUNG SAM
No doubt that humans are more interested in fake humans, and that’s what Samsung has been targeting and is evident from their history, among many other categories. At CES 2020, Samsung pitched their VHA (Virtual Human Assistant) product, i.e., Neon. Although Neon was in the initial design stages, the media still showed interest and bought it as Neon was fan-favorite in the event.
With their history of showing interest in Human Virtual assistants, many experts believe that Samsung should act swiftly by bringing Samantha into real life because the market is not yet saturated when it comes to fake humans or virtual human assistants, as it has vast potential for becoming the best virtual human assistant. Moreover, Samsung can also set the trend of virtual humans because rivals such as Apple and Amazon have not yet taken such steps. They are still using virtual assistants rather than virtual humans.
Now that we know Samsung Sam, what would Alexa and Siri look like in the form of virtual humans?
When it comes to Samsung Sam’s personality, it seems that she is a very cheerful, young, energetic girl with attractive blue eyes and bob style haircut. Moreover, she is an expert in using Samsung phones as she knows everything about it and helps users by showing them how to use their Samsung phones. Furthermore, she only speaks Spanish and Portuguese, whereas fans desperately wait for Samsung Sam to speak other languages.
Samsung Sam is not designed to replace the current VA of the brand; in contradiction, she is used for the advertisement of Samsung phones, and her images might be used as Samsung virtual assistant avatar. There are speculations that this beautiful virtual human might replace Bixby (Samsung had declared that it wouldn’t replace their current VA – Bixby) for various reasons. One of them is that it’s not as successful and fan-favorite as Siri, Alexa, and google assistant. This could also be true because Samsung perhaps wanted to develop a new virtual assistant, i.e., Samsung Sam.
While clarifying more in this regard, the company has stated that it is a chat box robot that will help customers resolve their issues using Samsung mobile phones. In other words, it’s part of Samsung’s customer support team. Samsung had made it crystal clear that Samsung Sam won’t replace Bixby even though it had become fan-favorite since the beginning when its photos were shared on social media.
FINAL WORDS
Most people were disheartened when they heard about Samantha’s rejection as the company officials declared that Bixby would not be replaced with her. Even though Samsung owns Cheil, their last year’s famous design seems to be a project from the past where Samsung has nothing to do.
People desperately wanted to see it as their virtual human assistant; however, that didn’t happen even though it did seem possible shortly. The reason for Samsung Sam’s rejection could also be that it was never designed as a virtual assistant; however, if that’s correct, then Samsung could set a new trend in the niche of smartphones as they could become the pioneer of introducing virtual humans assistant for the first. Remember that other tech giants also have virtual assistants, but those are faceless, unlike Samsung Sam.
